Low-Slope Roofing Materials

The materials used on a residential low-slope roof are exactly the same materials we use on our large commercial and industrial roofing systems.

TPO: TPO was created to be a better alternative to ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM). It’s also cheaper than another major product, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), but will look similar to PVC when installed. We install this system by using a hot air welder. This will produce a waterproof bond at the seams, reducing the risk of water damage.

Modified Bitumen: Modified bitumen is one of the most common options for low-slope residential roofing. This roofing system is made by combining asphalt and either plastic or rubber polymers, which produces a hard roofing surface that still has superior ultraviolet (UV) resistance and is extremely flexible. Modified bitumen roofing is applied in layers, with the number of layers affecting the overall lifespan of the roofing system. We can apply it using either a self-adhering product or cold-applied adhesive, both of which add a waterproofing barrier.

Elastomeric Coatings: Think of elastomeric coating as a spray-applied liquid that dries to become a monolithic waterproof membrane. It is used primarily as a sacrificial barrier on already-sound roofs, but may be applied to various damaged substrates after proper repair to prolong the life of the roof for up to 10 years.
